WHAT IS YOGA?
According to traditional terms, yoga means to yuk, to bring together, to change, in union. Yoga certainly brings together three parts: body, breath and mind. Yoga means different things to different people the experience is personal.
WHAT DOES THE BODY, BREATH AND MIND DO FOR MY HEALTH?
The body is moved to build strength and add flexibility. Overall body awareness is increased by noticing, then addressing, muscle compensations and misalignments. Over time, corrections can occur relieving many common issues such as lower back, neck pain and headaches.
The breath practice can help to lower stress levels by calming the parasympathetic system, the body’s own relaxation system, which also assists how well our organs function. You will feel the calming effect as you learn how to soften your breath rhythm. Yoga works inside and out equally.
The mind is required to concentrate on the poses helping you learn how to direct your mind’s full attention. This can be a great assistance to aid with natural pain relief and help lessen worry of daily life. Awareness is gained and your thoughts and body’s signals become better understood. Stress tends to dissolve and clarity comes forth.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO DO IN YOGA?
Maybe you have heard things like it was relaxing or I got a great workout or my arm is feeling better. Whatever you have seen or heard it is very personal. Today, many people consider yoga to be a practice of strengthening, stretching and releasing tension within the body, while centering yourself through your mind’s attention to your breathing. WHAT IS AN ASANA?
Seeing pictures of people doing yoga, the poses, it appears like you have to be a contortionist to attend but this is not the case at all! The physical poses, moves or holds are referred to as Asana. This is the primary teaching of yoga. There are hundreds of poses and modifications available for you to discover. The poses are based from your body’s required ROM (range of motion) in order to maintain health and vital movement. Yoga poses/movements work on co-ordination, flexibility, strength and balance. There is always a level in which you can move comfortably. Look for a yoga program at your level for your best results.
CAN I DO YOGA?
Yoga is one of the most adaptive forms of activities. There truly is a yoga level for every BODY! Media coverage of yoga programs often show people twisting into pretzel shapes when in fact you don’t even need to be able to touch your toes to do yoga! Yoga should never be taxing or hard on your body. Yoga is designed to bring the hundreds of poses to your body’s specific abilities without program competition. If you have not been active in awhile or you are quite fit, the poses are adjusted to meet your personal needs.
WHERE DO I FIT?
Your ideal fit is with a peer group at the same athletic level as you. Your yoga poses and movements should feel comfortable and relaxed. Read the 10 Yoga Levels, take a look at some of the videos on this site and go with your instincts!

When you make the decision that it is important to you and your health, Yoga can easily fit into your lifestyle. We suggest to start with one hour per week at the right level and you will feel better – one move at time! Isn’t it time to make the commitment to yourself to move more and feel better?
DO YOU OFFER MAKE UP PROGRAMS?
There is limited space in each program and your spot is reserved for you. With this in mind there are no makeup programs due to full capacity in programs. The programs run a set length and pricing is based on the teacher’s time and space overhead. Having you commit to a scheduled time each week is the best way to build a routine for yourself in the long term. You will thank us later!
CAN I JOIN LATE?
If there is room in a program of interest, you are more than welcome to join the remaining programs in the program. Yoga is not like dance you won’t miss a step if you miss a program. Different rates apply.
WHAT ABOUT WEATHER CANCELLATIONS?
This happens very rarely. It is the teacher’s decision and a cancellation will be posted on Facebook, Ten Yoga programs/Facebook.com within one hour of program start time. A make up program at the end of the program will be given.
We don’t want to see you stressed out or put in danger due to weather, however comfort levels with driving vary. Generally icy conditions or major weather warns would move us to cancel. Think about our virtual program from the comfort of your own home in the stormier weather!
HOW DO I ENSURE I SUCCEED?
Ensure your investment in yourself; please book your session dates in your calendar, and add on 2 extra for scheduling flexibility needs. To help you get your best results:
- Learn to say “No” to other requests that present themselves at the same time as your yoga program.
- If you’re not well, come and rest. Yes REST!
OTHER DETAILS TO KNOW ABOUT TEN YOGA PROGRAMS
- Wear comfortable layered fitness attire or your relaxation clothing.
- While in program you will be bare foot.
- If you do not have any yoga gear not to worry “the studio” location is fully equipped. You can borrow a mat there. This will help you invest in the right mat after a few weeks.
- 1st program, please arrive about 10mins early, giving yourself time to find the space, take a bathroom break, choose your equipment, to fill out waiver, relax a minute and to get settled in.
